DESCRIPTION
Private Lives was a series of personal essays by writers around the globe, published by the New York Times’ Opinion section from 2013-16. As art director, I branded the series by having each essay be illustrated with an original wordless comic, that could distill the story into 10 frames or less. The idea was to pair narrative writing with narrative drawing, allowing two different but related forms of storytelling to interact. The series was illustrated by a wide roster of cartoonists and illustrators, and art directed by myself, Nathan Huang, and Sarah Williamson. I also commissioned and art directed original stand-alone comics, in collaboration with Nathan Huang.
